wishlist and Holiday Happiness 2004
Dec. 1st, 2004 10:48 amStep One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals, or the actual community) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
My wishlist
+ piano sheet music. In particular, I'm looking for piano music to "Carol of the Bells", but, you know, any piano sheet music would be fantastic, because I received that excellent, expensive keyboard last Christmas, to replace the piano I can't have in the apartment, and, well, I have nothing to play.
+ write me a story. If you want to write a story based around some of my characters or novels, that would be terrific, too (and very flattering), but I just love stories, period. Link me to some of your favorite stories, tell me a story about your life, whatever. Angst, holiday sap, horror, anything. Of course, I'm extremely fond of modern preternatural adventure stories or urban fantasy/horror, but, you know, I'll read anything. I'm really craving sweet holiday stories, but anything will make me happy. Comment or email if you want more information. Also, poetry would work, if that's the format you prefer.
+ send me a little mail. A card, a letter, a box of beads, a puppy (well, ok, better not send that), just send me mail. I love getting mail, and lately, it seems like the only thing I get is a bill a day. Slight exaggeration, but still, I love mail. Surprise me. I like pens and stationary and reading letters. I love shiny things. Whatever you want me to see, send me.
+ mix CDs. Any music, any mix, anything.
+ pictures, whether hard copies or through email. I love really well-done ocean photography, but anything would be nice.
+ steady photography work for Jacob. Because that would make him happy, and I don't know the first thing about finding him freelance work. I barely know how to get my own work, in a field with which I'm familiar, and have contacts.
+ items for my collections. I collect Lilo & Stitch anything; picture frames, especially those with snowglobes on them; halloween items; candles; snowglobes; postcards from around the world; all versions of x-men comics; and black and white glossies from my favorite movies. Also books, but because I work in a bookstore, it's hard to buy me books as a surprise.
+ your favorite monster legends, either books that contain them, or just type up the legend and email it to me. I'm looking for information on anything from vampires to werewolves to nagas to whatever monster is prevalent where you live. I love monster and horror legends, ghost stories, all of that. I'm looking to include some more folk stories in my own writing, so anything would be wonderful. Just be sure to include the general area the story comes from, if you email it to me.
+ acceptance to law school, with a nice financial aid package. But I know no one can really give me this, at least not anyone who will see this post, and I'm doing all I can to make sure I give it to myself. Still, I'd like to know before Christmas, and I don't think that will happen. *sigh*
+ go do something nice for someone you see today, anyone, and tell me about it. And spread this on to other people. I'm looking to see Holiday Happiness 2004 spread all over. And I already need inspiration to make it through the season; retail kills, you know.
Email me at seeksadventure@gmail.com for snail mail.
Edited to add: And I'm an idiot. My name is Carla, and I'm living in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, USA.
Also, because people have been asking for a link, and I finally realized what I was doing wrong last time, my amazon wishlist.
And finally, if there is anything I can do for you, please, let me know. I want to make people happy. I mean, I want to make my friends and family happy all the time, but right now, I want to try to make everyone happy. It's a new thing I'm working on. I believed it's called being nice.
And really finally, I still want to write holiday stories for people. If you'd like a short story, leave a note and let me know what you want, and I'll see if I can't get it written. I make no guarantees, especially if I'm not familiar with the fandom, but I'll try.
This came as the perfect addition to my own holiday goal, which is to create Holiday Happiness 2004. It's my last year in retail during the holidays, because I'm off to law school next fall, and I wanted to go out with a bang, making people, strangers or friends, happy, and then this came along, and is a great way to do that. Thank you to all the participants. I hope your wishes are granted.
