My Holiday Wishlist
Dec. 1st, 2004 12:45 pmI am constantly doing things for other people because I enjoy it. I am on the PTA board, the Cub Scout board, and my Home Owner’s Association board. I help friends out when they are in a tough situation. I give when I can. I pass down my kids’ clothes to friends. I figure some of that good karma has got to come back to me, right?
So here’s hoping I generate some karma.
Oh. And I don't know how to do an LJ Cut. Sorry.
MY LIST –
* A real job. Having an MBA and many years of management experience doesn’t really make a whole lot of difference when you’re an office manager in a small business working for $10 an hour. Sending out resumes and not getting any response sucks. But getting ‘You’re overqualified’ in response sucks even more. If anyone has any connections in Atlanta with someone who needs a talented middle manager, and wants to hire someone with some actual experience, please let me know. Getting a new job would solve almost all the other wishes single-handedly!
* Some Chanukah presents for my kids. Danielle - 9, David - 7, and Daphne - 4. I’ve been able to get some small things – see financial situation above! – but there is no way that I can handle 8 days of presents for 3 kids all by myself.
* Winter clothes for Danielle . While I can manage the hand me down situation to the younger kids pretty well, and I have several people passing on clothes that fit Daphne, Danielle is growing out of all of her stuff.
* The Harry Potter Collection on DVD. They are Danielle’s and David’s favorite movies, and I haven’t even seen Prisoner of Azkaban yet! Oh, heck. As long as I’m asking, my whole Amazon wishlist! http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/registry.html/ref=cm_wl_sortbar/103-6412718-8330227?id=364MOLVHAONCC&items-per-page=25&sort=priority&filter=all&reveal=all&x=11&y=9
* Someone to Lift the Appliance curse off of my house! Within the past 2 months, I have gone through 3 clothes driers, a dishwasher, a garbage disposal, and a cordless phone. Oh, and 3 flat tires. So I guess I have a minivan curse as well! Lucky me.
* A mortgage. With everything I’ve gone through in the last 2 years, my shaky credit, and my very low income, getting a mortgage to purchase the house that I’m living in is not easy. I’m in a lease to purchase situation, and I have to purchase by May or I’ll lose all the money I already have invested in it. Which would really suck.
* Target Gift Cards. While some people want gift cards to a Spa or to a high-end store, I’ll be happy to use it to buy paper towels and shampoo.
* A break every once in a while. Having the kids by myself 24 / 7 is both unbridled joy and bone-crushing tiredness. Going out to dinner with friends, seeing a movie that is NOT animated, or listening to music that you wouldn’t hear on the Disney Channel seems like so little to ask. But it’s gargantuan when you don’t have a reliable baby-sitter.
* A fence. Speaking of bone-crushing tiredness, walking the dogs 5 times a day can really wear someone out! There’s a guy here who has been promising to build me a fence for 6 months – and keeps asking me out! – but hasn’t come through. And no, he’s not my type!
* And since I want to ask for something fun – Draco Malfoy or Tom Felton wallpaper, icons, pictures, etc. Not for me, but for Danielle. Yes, she is also a squealing fan-girl. But I have no idea where she gets her taste. Everyone knows that Daniel Radcliff is much cuter!
So here’s hoping I generate some karma.

Date: 2004-12-01 09:14 pm (UTC)Hope that explanation makes sense.
Meanwhile, can you send your address to ghoti@livejournal.com and I'll see what I can dig up wrt number three. It won't be anything terribly much, but every little helps, no?
Thanks!
Date: 2004-12-01 09:38 pm (UTC)For both the explanation and the offer.
Everything helps!

Date: 2004-12-01 09:23 pm (UTC)I know how hard it can be, being a single mom myself.. I'm lucky tho.. I moved back in with my mother, and she helps out a lot
Danielle
Date: 2004-12-01 09:33 pm (UTC)Danielle wears about a size 10. She's definitely a 10 in shirts and jackets, but she's really short -- like her mom. So 10's in pants fit her around the waist, but are long on her.
And yes it's tough being a single mom, but I prefer it to being with a non-supportive spouse that I no longer respected, let alone loved. And I have good friends around me. That helps.
Sue
Re: Danielle
Date: 2004-12-01 10:13 pm (UTC)I was looking, and I have a couple pairs of fleece pants, and a pair of jeans, and some long sleeved shirts, that are "cool" my daughter says hehe, in the whole, belled sleeves and whatnot style, as well as a happy bunny hoodie.. I can send them your way, shipping shouldn't be TOO much, clothes don't weight alot, and I can squish them into a small box.. they might be a little wrinkled when they get there tho hehe..
email me yer addy and whatnot at fallenanjel@rogers.com

Date: 2004-12-03 07:22 am (UTC)Oh, and you're definitely right about Radcliffe versus Felton!

Date: 2004-12-03 01:36 pm (UTC)As far as the kids' interests - Daphne loves Horses too. She has stuffed horses and books about horses. She even has a huge stuffed horse that you ride on and plays 'Hi Ho Silver Away!' She also likes puppies. You can tell she's 4.
Danielle is into Harry Potter, other young adult books like the Classics and Eragon, and anything girly like Barbies, Bratz, and dress up.
David loves math - he's at around a fifth grade level - Pokemon, HotWheels, K'nex, and Outer Space.
Anything you could do would be hugely appreciated!

Date: 2004-12-03 08:50 am (UTC)each night i'd pull a slip of paper out of a hat (or choose a number or something like that). i'd get either a present or some chocolate gelt or something. there'd be at least 3 #s that were chocolate gelt but it was fine w/me coz i love the stuff, and, well, the suspense of the surprise was fun.

Date: 2004-12-03 01:41 pm (UTC)That's much better than saying, "Sorry kids. No presents tonight!"
I'll go get a bunch of gelt. Thanks!
