[identity profile] wakingdreaming.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] holidaywishes
I have a suggestion for everyone, especially the moderators of the community. Even though this Wish list meme is technically for the holiday season, I think we should keep it around even when the holidays are over. It's wonderful to be generous at ALL times of the year. I, for one, would like to be able to fulfill more wishes for people than I will be able to do in just this one month, due to time and money issues, and I bet there are plenty of folks out there who feel the same way. How does everyone else feel about it?

I'd love to keep it around, but I don't think I could afford it. It's so addicting.

I totally agree! I don't have that much money and once I've bought my family pressies, I don't know how much I'll have left so I've had to grant less wishes than I'd like to. I'd love to be able to grant more wishes at a time when i have all my money free!

I have come across a UK-based community called [livejournal.com profile] _wishlist_ that's been around a while though, I was planning on being kind there after Christmas when I have some more money!

I am in the same boat and cannot grant all the wishies I would like to due to current finances - but I could grant a few after Christmas! :)

It would be fun to have this go on all year. Kindness to strangers is good for the soul, and shouldn't just happen for one month out of the year.

Nice idea, though I do have to point out that there are TONS of wishlist communities on LiveJournal, and many are dying out due to a lack of interest.

Maybe we can grant some of their wishes too?

Do you have any links to them?

Am looking for them as we speak :)

We could definately put them on the userinfo page for places to go to not during the holiday season! Talk to their moderators about affilliating or whatever...

Not a bad idea, but I agree with [livejournal.com profile] mydemand, though I think we'll *definately* try this again next year :) Maybe we'll just have this community active two months out of the year during the winter holidays to avoid burnout :)

Or maybe, after Christmas, we stop the wishlist posts, and just talk about the things we got and sent and the whole experience altogether? Less focus on "gimme stuff!" and more on the overall journey.

Not a bad idea... a certain date for the end of wishlist posting, a certain date for the end of fulfilling wishes, and then for a week or two beyond that, discuss... then the unofficial "shutdown" until next season :)

well, an informal date anyway :D no reason, if someone feels generous, they're more than welcome to.

well, i would think that it woudl be grand to keep this around. not just for necessarily gift giving year round, but like if you are spring cleanign and come across some things..too lazy to garage sale and don't have anywhere to donate it to, you may as well look it up see if anyone wants them here. (kinda like freecycle in a way)i mean , why not? less trash more happy people. maybe the receiver coudl take on shipping responsibilities depending on the generosity of the giver ro the size of the item..there are hundres of things to be done with it, whyend such a great feeling because the holidays are over?

I don't know. I'd like to make it holiday-neutral though

[end christmas-overload rant]

I totally agree! I thought that was good that this community wasn't named "christmas_wishes", but "holiday_wishes". There are a lot of holidays. :) Maybe we could choose a few major holidays and post wishlists for them (I can think of Christmas and Easter - they're more or less international.) And we could use the time between them for joyful posts about things we receive.

I've never heard of Purim... Our gift-giving holiday is New Year's Day. :)
