Dec. 3rd, 2004 12:19 pmI thought this was a nice thing to hear today and it goes along with the spirit of holiday wishes. I thought I'd pass it along.
Our local Make-A-Wish group sends kids on a flight to the North Pole to meet Santa. They take the kids on the plane and fly them to another airport where Santa is waiting to meet them and the kids get presents and have fun and it's a really cool thing.
This year's flight was almost cancelled because the airline that was going to be taking care of the flight, Southeast Airlines, has gone under.
The airport is going to donate the fuel, a pilot has volunteered his services. All that is needed is the money to be able to charter a plane.
One of our local radio stations made a plea on the morning show this morning to try and raise $18,000 to charter the plane.
As of noon today, the donations have reached $24,000 and counting.
So not only are the kids going to get to fly to the North Pole, other Make a Wish children will have their wishes granted as well.

Date: 2004-12-03 07:31 pm (UTC)(I see you are in PA on your lj) I know down here (where Southeast is based out of) in Pinellas County there are talks of helping the families of the laid off workers. It was quite a shock to the community here to lose a major airline at the local airport with no warning.
That is so awesome!

Date: 2004-12-03 07:50 pm (UTC)I've visited the place couple of times(I do assume you're talking about the one and only Santa, he who lives in Finland). Though, I was feeling like this (http://www.eskapismi.net/maarit/kuvat/vappu/londonpout.jpg). But that's just because of that 'London 2260km' sign.
Here's (http://www.eskapismi.net/maarit/kuvat/vappu/tunturi.jpg) some Lapland scenery too.
