I've been reading this comm. & trying to send things where I can, so I hope it's ok to finally post my own list! My name is Trystan, I'm *ehem* almost 40, living deep in the wilds of Silicon Valley with my dear hubbi & our kitties. I've been on LJ for ages, online for longer, & while my list is a little odder than most, perhaps something might resonate...

  • By the end of December 3, vote for where Yahoo! donates profits to an environmental cause here

  • Photocopies from the book Patterns of Fashion 4 by Janet Arnold of the last few pages showing 'how we made a repro ruff' that includes baking a ruff (sure, the book would be nice, but really I just want these parts for now :-)

  • A commuter-style coffee cup bec. I've lost 2 at work in 3 years, so clearly I need some backups. Pref. in some amusing cartoon print or with a funky touristy image or something wacky that will give me a laugh in the mornings (second-hand ok!)

  • An Elizabethan flag fan in colors I wear in costume (see my website)

  • Donations to the Humane Society Silicon Valley (it's where my hubbi & I got our cats from, so we give to them every year)

  • Recommendations of iPhone apps (free to about $4) related to public transit in the San Francisco Bay Area or London U.K., a Garmin-like GPS w/voice tool, a trick to copy & paste text from one app to another (does that exist?), a really good Italian phrasebook (I've tried the free ones, but wouldn't mind an upgrade), & any useful environment/green themed apps

  • Washable, drawstring, fabric bags for shoes for traveling (home-made ok!)

  • An LJ icon of Northern California, but not San Francisco-centric. I have a San Jose icon, but I'd like something more generally California, just don't focus on that orange bridge ;-)

  • Recipes for easy, quick, healthy, pref. one-pot dinners that are semi-vegetarian (no tofu, no red meat, chicken is ok)

  • Second-hand versions of anything on my amazon wish list

  • Swear off bottled water. It's a waste of resources when most of us in the industrialized world have access to perfectly safe clean water from the tap. And most people don't recycle the plastic bottles either. Learn more from Food & Water Watch.

If chicken is ok I know a easy crockpot recipe.

Chicken- skinless, boneless if you like (it is easier sometimes that way) and any pieces you like

Salsa- any heat you like

~!~

Take the salsa and pour just enough to cover the bottom of the crockpot.

Then place the chicken in the crockpot and pour the rest of the salsa until the entire chicken is covered. And that it is filled close to the top.

Place the crockpot on low and let it cook for 6-8 hours or until the chicken is done. If the salsa gets low you can either add more salsa or water.

Serve the chicken and you can use the salsa as a dip for the chicken.

I swore off bottled water many years ago and I am completely happy drinking our tap water :)
Best decision I ever made!
(plus, bottled water always tasted a bit weird to me anyway)

I use my Nalgene. I still forget it sometimes, or can't find a source of water that looks decent... Our area has good municipal water, but up north it tastes strongly of something rotted. I know it's probably safe but I'm spoiled. :\

I also carry my travel mug, a cloth napkin, and a titanium spork so I don't have to use paper cups, paper napkins, or plastic silverware. (Usually.) I'm not so sure about germs, so I use tissues at in public when I have to go out with a cold. But at home (today! *sniffle*) there's nothing softer than an ancient t shirt cut up for nose-rags. I use cloth rags for cleaning too, except cat puke. Still can't bring myself to clean up the nastier bodily byproducts with something reusable.

I voted!

I wish that I could swear off bottled water, but unfortunately I'm one of those people that doesn't have access to very clean water in my home. My well likes to bring up mud. =( Sadly when you live in a rural area, you don't always get well water that's drinkable. Someday I will be able to afford a filtration system, so consider that wish as being postponed a little.

Sadly no, unless I wanted to change filters every 2-3 days. I tried to use mine from my old place when we first moved in here and and it just ruined it.

I swore off bottled water ages ago. The only time I need the stuff is when I travel, as I'm a frequent Greyhound rider. I just buy a bottled soft drink and when it's done I refill the bottle from drinking fountains at various bus stations. Once I get to my destination, I recycle the bottle. If I'm staying in a hotel, I save the bottle for use on the way home, then recycle. :)
