Newbie to Holiday Wishes
Dec. 2nd, 2008 12:10 amHello there from Oklahoma! Well, I'm a Mississippi transplant here just recently. I'm an archivist/librarian at a museum right now. I'm an artsy-crafty person, a poet, a photographer, and a reader. I'm trying to pick up sewing again and I'm always making something up in the kitchen. I'll get right to it, now, and post my wishlist.
1. Craft materials/supplies. This can include beads, fabrics, threads, yarns, stencils, buttons, papers, paints, glues, etc. I pretty much like to make something out of nothing.
2. Books. Now the specifics is where it gets interesting: I'd like the old paperbacks of classic books (Hemingway, Miller, Orwell, Kesey, Hughes, Dickinson, Chopin, Drieser, Dostoevesky, etc - you get the idea, the canonized classics of literature) but even moreso the ones with covers that have a vintage look to them, probably because they were printed in the '50s or '60s. I have a art idea to use the covers of these books, and then another idea to use the pages of some of the books. So these would be pretty cool.
3. I have an Amazon.com wishlist. I'd like anything off of it, new, used, or copied.
4. I love getting mixed music CDs because it introduces me to new music, or related music that I already like. I am really into Gillian Welch, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, David Gray, The Wood Brothers.... If you know those sounds and have music by other artists (popular or local) that sorta resonate these sounds but give a new twist, I'd like the music. I have very diverse interest in music anyway, so one can't really go wrong (except for a CD of hate or degrading lyrics!)
5. Charity: My dad was diagnosed with diabetes late in life. So was his father. Also, heart disease runs in the family. So I have two organizations I recommend making a donation to (one or both): The American Diabetes Association and The American Heart Association.
6. Handmade journals, either by you or locally made. I write a lot and really like using journals that have character and uniqueness to them. And I keep my journals forever and ever. I carry it in my person all the time, because not only do I write in it every day for creative purposes and projects, but also make notes about a movie's showtimes, addresses to bars I like to go to, bands playing, random recipes, etc. My journal use is eclectic.
7. Anything with a cute bird or bird design on it. Fabric with birds on it, stationary with birds in the header, postcard of bird and birdhouses, bird magnets, buttons, beads, anything. I'm just into the birds lately. Not so much the eagle, peacock, or chicken. Especially love the variety of songbird, cardinal, mockingbird, sparrow, finch, etc.) Or general stylized bird designs. I just like the birds. :)
8. Wind chimes make me smile and happy. I have moved where the wind is nearly a constant thing. Since I don't see my Appalachian mountains anymore, at least I can have the wind and the music made when the chimes sing.
9. Pottery plates. I have one of those dish collections of mismatched handmade pottery mugs, bowls, juice glasses, goblets. I love it. But I still eat off of plates bought in a department store 'cause I never see plates at the pottery sales. I'd love some pottery plates with pretty glazes in blues, greens, browns, purple, purpley-reds... Love pottery.
10. A paid Livejournal account wouldn't be bad to get at all. :)
