2008 wishlist
Dec. 2nd, 2008 04:03 pmHi everyone. I'm excited for another year of holiday wishes! I've been able to grant a few so far. I love playing elf! Here are my wishes for this year:
1. stickers of all sorts. It doesn't matter if they're even sheets of stickers with half of them used up. I teach special education in an elementary school and we use stickers for behavior charts and as incentives to work. I'm always looking for new and different ones to keep my stock fresh!
2. request books from my paperpackswap account. I have recently been given a ton of books that aren't my style, and I can't store because our apartment is pathetically small. I hope to clear out some room for us to move around in, and make room for the books I do need. I am offering a 2 for 1 sale on my books, so if you request one, send me a message to let me know what other one you would like along with your order! www.paperbackswap.com/book/members_books.php Credits that I get from paperbackswap.com go towards ordering books for my work with students or for my mother, who is housebound and loves to read.
3. books from my Amazon wishlist. To fill the space of the books I'm trying to get rid of! Actually, these are books I can use in my career, and knitting books that I would love, but wouldn't ever buy for myself, because it would feel like too much of a splurge. Used copies are fine, but if they are of file folder games, please check that they aren't already colored in or torn up.
4. adopt a grandparent. My gramma died recently, and we went nearly everyday to visit her in the nursing home for a period of months before her death. It was so sad to see how many people don't get regular visiters. It would make their day to even receive a holiday card, or a friendly, honest hello, how are you?
5. read to a child. It helps them in so many, many ways. And it can make you happy too! Especially if you share your favorite stories from when you were a kid. Read an extra special book to your kids, volunteer at a library, or offer to do a read aloud at a local school. Many classes are very glad to have guest readers at read aloud time sharing their favorites.
6. advice in house buying. My husband and I are looking to buy a house some time in the next 8-9 months. We haven't been through this process before, and are unsure about closing fees, private seller vs. realtor, and everything else invovled. If you have any tips, they would be much appreciated, so we know what we're up against. We have 10% down on the price of an average starter home. We are hoping we'll have closer to 15% when the time comes, but I'm unemployed right now (I'm interning to finish my graduate degree) so I don't know how that will go.
7. tell your family you love them this holiday. Each year, my extended family shrinks. This year, there aren't any left. Appreciate them while they're there.

Date: 2008-12-03 05:11 am (UTC)A buyer's agent. Absolutely. I totally recommend http://www.naeba.org/, as that's how we found our agent and got the BEST deal on our home! You will NOT be disappointed. I researched for MONTHS before we chose someone, and I don't regret a second of it.
And 4,5,and 7? Done ;)

Date: 2008-12-03 08:49 am (UTC)5. Got it covered. My kid has been a bookworm since he was only old enough to crawl across them. At this point, some of his books are more tape (from being repaired from overuse) than cardboard and paper.
7. I've got this one covered, too. Family, and friends too. And when it's not love, well, I tell them as much as I honestly can. Because you never do know...and it's worth doing, even if you did.
My condolances on your family losses. ::hug:: Wish I could do more.

Date: 2008-12-05 11:57 pm (UTC)I was going through the lists over at Holiday_Wishes and something you asked for caught my eye.
Could you please email me at smallwaldo at gmail dot com and send me a snail mail address?
(and also, because I'm a huge flake, could you please put your LJ name and/or a link back to your list in the same email so I'm sure to match up the right list with the address. Thanks!)
