Hello, guys.
I believe this will be my third year posting here.
Although, I think I've had a new journal just about all three times, lol.
I don't remember my past two, so I'll just reintroduce myself.
My name is Lindsay, I'm 18 and reside in somewhere in South Carolina, US.
Here's my wishlist:
 

1. Anything for a newborn. I just found out a few days ago that I'm about 4 weeks pregnant. Any sort of help is appreciated. Clothes, books, booklets, DVDs.. anything that could help. I have plenty of support from my family and friends, but I'm still a little in the dark being as this is was really unexpected and its my first child. I'll even take advice. Anything at all would be awesome. :] And don't worry.. I realize I'm young, but I'm really ready to take responsibility for it. Me and my boyfriend both. I just need a little help, is all.

2. Anything Nirvana related. I'm a huuuge Nirvana fan. I absolutely love them. I've been a fan of them for as long as I can remember. So, anything at all related to the band or Kurt would be awesome. A nice wallpaper for my widescreen laptop would be cool, even. I can never find a decent one to fit my 1280x800 screen, lol.  :D

3. Video games, used or new.. doesn't matter. I currently only own an Xbox 360, so anything for that would be sweet.

4. Old movies. I love just about any kind of movies. I'll take old DVDs (as long as they work, lol) and even VHS. :]

5. Cards. I love getting different kinds of post cards or holiday cards from anywhere and everywhere.

6. Stickers. I love stickers, lol. Any kind. I especially love band stickers. If you want an idea of what kind of bands I like, just take a quick look at my last.fm page.

7. Mix CDs. Any kind of music. I'm open to anything, as I'm sure you can see on the last.fm page, lol.  I just love discovering new music. :P

8. Handmade dreads. I've always been into dreads and extensions, but never had the creativity or skill to do it myself. :s

9. Photos. If you're into photography, I always love a good photograph. I'm into it, myself, actually. I love seeing other people's work.

10. Just be thankful for what you already have and for what you recieve. So many people now a days seem so ungrateful for what they already have and seem so bent on what they want to get.

You join the community, and then once you've joined you go make a regular journal post but in the drop down where it says "vitasdd" on yours, click it and go to "holiday_wishes".

1) My best friend's husband was stationed 3000 miles away when she had their first baby, so I lived with her that summer and picked up a few tricks in the process. The lifesaver: the five S's. Basically, newborns are fussy sometimes because everything is so new to them, so making them feel like they're back in the womb is very calming to them.

The five S's are swaddling (wrapping them snugly in a blanket, so that their arms and legs can't move), side (laying or holding them on their side), swaying/shaking (gently rock, jiggle, etc.), shush (a constant "shhhhh" or other white noise, like a vacuum, dryer, or dishwasher; this can be louder than you'd think), and suck (give them a pacifier or your finger).

Basically, these are the tricks you want to use when they're dry and fed but still won't stop crying. We learned that if you hold them on their side facing away from you, you can do everything else at once. ;) Best wishes, and hope this helps.

Children's music

If you're familiar with the band "They Might Be Giants," they have a song named "Why Does the Sun Shine? (The Sun is a Mass of Incandescent Gas)", which is based upon a 1950's educational children's song. It was part of a six-record set of science related children's songs, all of which have been converted to .mp3 format and can be downloaded here (http://www.acme.com/jef/singing_science/).

And if you don't want to download each one individually, there's an add-on for Firefox called DownThemAll (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/201) that will let you check which ones to download (since there are both high and low res versions of each song) and then downloads them all for you.
