Merry Christmas from San Francisco
Dec. 6th, 2008 05:24 pmI'm Daniel, 28, living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I've participated before- last year I was out of state and didn't have internet access, but the year before I did, and it really made my holidays better (both getting things and being able to fulfill others wishes). I'm having a rough patch this year, am on the edge of staying in a shelter (have friends I'm staying with so far, but that isn't indefinte, and I'm on disablity, so I don't have much income), so I won't be able to do too much in material for others but I love sending mail and things, and I crochet, so hoping to send people some handmade/decorated things. I love sending mail as well as getting it.
1)The thing I really want this year is a home for me (and my wonderful kitty, Mr.Thumbs. I've had him all his life, and he's ten, and while he's staying w/someone, it tears me up really bad to be apart from him.). Just somewhere I can have my own bed to sleep in and a place to cook and to feel safe. It's been since May, and... I'm getting awfully discouraged.
2)Snail mail. Christmas cards, letters, suprise packages- I could just really use some encouragement and I love getting mail.
3)Coloring books. I like to do the intricate ones ( www.dover.com is an example of those, but lots of kids stores or book stores have them) esp. holiday ones or the stained glass ones. Even print-outs of cool things to color would be neat.
4)Yarn. I love to crochet and can always use more yarn. (Nothing too furry/really hairy please- it's too hard to work with.) Don't really care what it's made of- I make socks w/fingering weight a lot, but really any yarn is good :) (If you want suggestions, I like Lion Brand and Caron Simly Soft). Colors don't matter.
5)Paid LJ time. My account just expired :(
6)A stocking w/fun little things in it (toys, chocolate- whatever). It was one of my very favorite things as a child, and is something I miss a lot.
7)Do something kind for someone who is struggling esp. homeless. It really makes a difference.
8)A good backpack- not the kind w/a metal frame, the regular kind. Something sturdy- I tend to be really rough on them. Pockets etc. are a plus. No light colors- knowing me, I'd spill a coffee on it immediately. I haven't been able to find one I can afford that's decent...
9)Music. Almost any time (no rap or hip-hop, please) esp. folk, Christmas music, celtic music- mix CDs are lovely.
10)That you donate gifts to children in foster care- it's something I really enjoy doing and normally do but can't this year.
Thank you, and Merry Christmas!
