Dec. 7th, 2008 08:54 pmHi, all! My name is Megan and this is my third year with holiday_wishes -- I joined when it was spotlighted -- and I'm so glad that it's the hw time of year again. Last year, my parents and my little brother had to do an emergency move to California. They left the day after Thanksgiving after a hard, desperate couple of weeks trying to find somewhere for them to go. The rest of the day I was alone at my boyfriend's house, feeling totally drained and lonely. I decided to walk to Salvation Army and grant some holiday wishes...and for hours and hours, I utterly lost myself in looking for books, fuzzy bathrobes, and (oh my god, my favorite) baby clothes for two women with new little girls. I felt wonderful, I felt connected to people -- I love you guys. :0)
And now, a list!
1) If anyone has the British editions of the Harry Potter audiobooks, read by Stephen Fry, I would be so happy to get 5, 6, and/or 7 from you! I got the first 4 from holiday_wishes last year and enjoyed them immensely.
2) Same goes for James Marsters reading the Harry Dresden books by Jim Butcher. I've only heard little clips of them, but they sound amazing!
3) If anyone has a microphone sitting around that can be used with a PC, I love recording and mixing songs on my computer (like this), but my old mic broke and I haven't been able to do it since this summer.
4) Kind of shy about asking, but I would really like this record player needle; my old one broke in the move and I can't quite give myself permission to spend the money on a new one (Even though I've spent just as much on food, train tickets, and even holiday_wishes this week! You know how hang-ups are.)
5) I would really like for this debt to be cleared and my relationship with my dad healed in the new year.
6) Hm, on to something slightly more frivolous -- birthday wishes! I'm turning 23 on January 12, and I would love some e-mails on the actual day, e-cards, what-have-you, to brighten up my b-day.
7) Go check out Tor.com -- it's the website I work for and it's a great community site/blog for all things science-fictiony, fantastical, and geeky. Just click around for a couple minutes, and if you like it, stay!
8) Recipes! I especially love making ethnic food (Indian and Asian-influenced), but any one of your favorite lunch/dinner/main course recipes would be great to have. I've been particularly on the lookout for the perfect salsa verde recipe, and bonus points if you send me something that involves that noble bird, the chicken. :0)
9) My little brother loves graphic novels and manga of all stripes, so if you have anything you don't want anymore, I know he'd be glad to have it. He's 16, so sex and violence is ok (But not too much sex, please! I still like to think of him as my baby.) He already has Prince of Tennis 1-14, Bleach 1-9, and Fruits Basket 1-8, if that helps.
10) If you work in an office where they have a coffee machine, cups, etc, just take a week and use a ceramic mug and a metal spoon and fork instead of a paper/styrofoam cup and plastic stirrers and utensils. I know I'm very bad about this and I'm trying to get better, so let's form a club and try to save the planet one cup of coffee at a time.
Either comment here or e-mail me
, and thanks so much for anything on this list! Happy wishing and wish-granting, all.
