Dec. 7th, 2008 11:38 pmThis is my third year posting my holiday list on this community and I'm so excited to be a part of it again(albeit, it was on another username)! It's actually my birthday today so I felt it was slightly apt to post today! :) (although the day's pretty much over.. haha)
1) Stories about romantic moments: Tell me the most romantic thing that's happened in your life or to someone else. I adore romance!
2) Foreign music recommendations: Anything that's not in English. I tend to like pop but other genre recs are welcome as well.
3) Tips on living in Tokyo, Japan: I'm going abroad there next semester so any and all tips would be welcome from those who have actually lived/studied/worked there.
4) Tell me an interesting fact about yourself!: Because everyone is unique!
5) Postcards: A fairly generic request, but I like them and they're not that expensive to send either, which is always an issue, haha.
6) Networking: After undergrad, I possibly want to work in the State Department or the DOD (both US) or possibly in the non-profit sector so if any of you have contacts, please let me know!
7) Be more informed about international issues: The world is becoming increasingly more globalized and you can't just limit yourself to thinking about domestic issues anymore; immerse yourself in current events and see what's happening in the world.
8) Do something you've never done before: ...as long as you're not hurting yourself or others or doing something illegal. Go dance on the sidewalk in the middle of the day or go run a 10k. Do it and post it here or email me. :)
9) Send me your favorite sweets!: Because I'm a sweets addict.
10) Smile: Every day of every week of every month of every year for the rest of your life. There's always something to smile about, from finally having the satisfaction of completing a monstrosity of a project to seeing a toddler trying to walk on wobbly legs. Smile, and just BE.

Date: 2008-12-08 07:06 am (UTC)I think the most romantic thing that happened to me lately has been when my boyfriend turned to me and said, "Is it okay if I say I love you? You don't have to say it back."
Talk about being polite and respectful. He's amazing. ♥
(Of course, I told him it was okay.)

Date: 2008-12-08 08:10 am (UTC)4. I eat peanut butter by the spoonful and, when I curse, it's in Burmese. I'm American but my step-father is Burmese and I picked it up from him lol.

Date: 2008-12-08 05:43 pm (UTC)4) Most people think it's weird, but I love old graveyards. I love getting a sense of the history of a place by how the graveyard is laid out and maintained. I stayed on a farm once where the family plot had a veteran of the American Revolution!
6) My mom works for a non-profit, and although she doesn't make any hiring decisions, she'd be willing to pass your resume on to the people who do. Let me know if you're interested.
8) Does it count if it's something we did recently? I asked a guy out for the first time a couple of weeks ago. (I'm 23, and have always been the askee, not the asker.) It was nervewracking, but I'm really proud of myself for doing it.

Date: 2008-12-09 08:11 pm (UTC)NonEnglish Music: Check out Sigur Ros, this amazing Icelandic band. Also look at Krisna Das for some great kirtan (Sanskrit) singing. If you check out my friend shotfromthehip on LJ, you'll find some awesome stuff.
I'd love to send you a postcard. Drop me a line at dakotawitch @ gmail dot com with "Holiday Wishes: Postcard" in the Subject and your addy in the body.
I'm an anthropologist, so I'm trying to always be on top of what's going on worldwide. I'll think of you as I surf and blog about international issues this year.
This is my year for #8. Not sure what it will be -- probably more than one thing -- so feel free to visit to see if I blog it!
And here's a *smile* :)

Date: 2008-12-13 08:17 pm (UTC)My SO is from France and we had been dating for just over 2 years when he asked me to marry him last Christmas Eve. We were in California where I am from and it was around 10pm and we were on the roof of the building where we were staying. (It was slightly cold up there but I digress.)Anyhow he asked me what was the best thing about being in California and I said being here with you. He said that he felt the same and ever since we met in New York that he hadn't been so happy in life and so would I marry him? I couldn't answer because I couldn't find my voice and he said I see you are stunned into silence. I nodded. He said answer me at midnight one way or the other, either way I know you love me so it's alright if you don't want to be married.
At 12am we were in our bed and he said so do you have an answer for me? I said that I would marry him-Yes. He said that was the best Christmas present he had ever received. So he gave me the ring which was wrapped and I said "It's not Christmas morning yet." I knew what it was but I kind of didn't want to ruin the moment with the ring stuff lol. He said "You are one odd Bohemian Chick darling. That's what I love about you most." Maybe you had to be there :)
What's interesting about me? I'm a Doctor who has very coarse red hair and I'm a vegan. I write as much as I can and keep very honest journals for my husband. I'm going to have our first child in a few months and one child is it for us. My husband is a sexy romantic man from Paris and I met him in New York when I wasn't looking for anyone. I have bunjee jumped. parasailed and I dig roller coasters and scary rides at amusement parks. I've lived in Hawaii and I have 8 piercings all above the neck lol. That's it man.
I have a cousin in the military who just moved to Japan over the summer for a 2-3 year stretch so I'll have to hear what's cool about Japan.
