All I want for Christmas...

As many of us know, this is a hard year for the holidays. Christmas is the best time of the year to fulfill wishes, and show that there is love and peace and happiness in this world! My friend had posted about this community on her journal and when scanning through I found it pleasing to find that there is a community out there where people can go and let everyone know what their wishes are (big or small) in hopes that some good soul would stop by and have what they have been wanting. I shall do my best to help fulfill some of the wishes!

As for me, there are a few things that I want at this moment. Most are unrealistic in my eyes, but maybe, just maybe something might happen.

1. Above all things I would love to find love. Whether it be through making new friends, or finding that someone special.

2. I really want to get a major in filming, but I am unsure on my finances for college. Basically, it would be most appreciated and I will be forever grateful towards anyone that would be willing to help out with college.

3. Hugs! (Note: E-hugs are just as good as real life hugs)

4. Laughter. (Example: send me a joke perhaps)

5. A weekend stay at the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, NC

Son number two arrived and announced, 'You and Mom
look great, Dad. I just flew in from Los Angeles between
depositions and didn't have time to shop for you.'
'It's nothing,' said the father,
'We're glad you were able to come.'
Just then the daughter arrived, 'Hello and happy
anniversary! I'm sorry, but my boss is sending me out of
town and I was really busy packing so I didn't have time
to get you anything.'
After they had finished dessert, the father said,
'There's something your mother and I have wanted to
tell you for a long time. You see, we were very poor.
Despite this, we were able to send each of you to college.
Throughout the years your mother and I knew that we loved
each other very much, but we just never found the time to
get married.'
The three children gasped and all said, 'You mean
we're bastards?'
'Yep,' said the father. 'And cheap ones, too.'

i'm 21 years old. and 21 years ago, i was good at something. may not have been much of something but it was swimming. i swam and i swam and i swam until i was somebody.

College funding

Make sure that you have filled out the FAFSA, as soon as you get your tax documents. You can do it all online at the Department of Education's website. (Google FAFSA Department of Education.) Make sure and do it though the Dept of Ed's site...do not pay for a service to do this for you, as it's free and easy to do it on your own.

Have you picked a school (or two or three) yet? Call and talk to their scholarship and grants offices. There is money out there, especially if you are going through a public college or university.

Do not let funding stand in the way of your education. As someone who came from a poor family (dad made 17K per year) and has gone on to get a BA, MA, and PhD, I can tell you -- the funding is out there, even if some it ends up being loans.

Yeah I have filled out the FAFSA, but I'll need to submit it again next April, being as I wont start school until May (so I can get in-state tuition).

I've already picked out and enrolled in the community college here to get my BA, and then I want to transfer to a university (though it's an all woman's university, though I think I'll be able to qualify for this one program they have those those that have been out of high school for 5+ years).

I've spoken with the community college financial aide department, and they just told me to go to their website.. which I did. But the scholarships I qualify for I can't apply for until after I've started college and gotten some credits. So I'm looking for private grants and scholarships.

Thank you for your encouragement though! I'm kinda on my own on this one.. my dad helped me fill out that FAFSA, but that's all he can do at this time. Working a part-time job, BUT I do have hope and encouragement like that is welcomed *hugs* thank you again!

Where are you located, if you don't mind me asking?

I teach part time at a local community college, and we have several programs that are designed to help students get into four year universities with funding, as well as pay for their classes at the community college. The private university where I did my MA and PhD has a program where students who made the required grades (3.5, I think) at the county community colleges were guaranteed admission and funding into the university. You might check with the university you plan on transferring to.

Community college is usually affordable for working people -- that being one of the main points of the whole system -- so if you can find a little help now and secure some major help for your university education, you're on your way.
