Hi. This is my first year doing this. Hoping I find opportunities to share the love with other people. I am a 24 year old single mom to a smart handful of a son. I'm from upstate NY, in the lower Adirondack region.

1. Any old beaded jewelry/beads/jewelry making supplies you don't want. I make my own jewelry, and frequently take things apart to make new pieces, so this would be cool. If you have beads or jewelry making supplies like tools and findings (clasps, jump rings, etc) that would be awesome as well.

2. Tips for styling shoulder length super thick hair in something other than a ponytail.I am in the midst of growing my hair back out to one length from having a pixie cut two years ago, and it is at just the right length if I dont put it up it drives me batty. It is WICKED thick, so it's hot as well if it is down. Any ideas on something else I could do with it would be greatly appreciated.

3. Ideas for entertaining a 4 year old who loves being outside when it is too cold to go outside. My son is a very smart boy and he loves to go outside, but getting him to understand that 10 degrees is just too cold to go in the yard and play is like banging your head on a brick wall. He does OK with movies, but he's watched everything he owns and blockbuster trips three times a week is too expensive. We try to do art activities and read or play but he gets bored because it isnt what he wants to do. Got any ideas?

4. Books/videos about trucks, trains, excavators, etc. My little man LOVES trains, trucks, construction machines, rescue vehicles, all that sort of boy things. He has a ton of Bob the Builder, and Thomas the Tank Engine, DVD's. If you have anything that seems like a little boy would like it, that would be great.

5. The Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise. I am a HUGE fan of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. I even have Jack dressed as Santa on my Christmas tree. If you have anything you dont want, I would be extremely appreciative to have it.

6. Families to come closer this holiday. I unfortunately get to watch my son suffer through a deadbeat dad, and I think its important to be close to your family at the holidays. Reconnect with loved ones, stay connected with the ones you hold close. Remember, even if you don't particularly like a family member, we are born loving them unconditionally. That doesn't stop, we just lose sight of the fact.

7. White gold 1/20 ct diamond stud earrings. I have 5 holes in each ear, and I could use another pair or two. I specified 1/20 ct because I already have two pairs of that size in my ears, and I would like them to match.

Happy Holidays everyone.

now admittedly i sell hair styxs. so i am biased. but there are many styles for use with hair sticks that are fast and work well with shoulder length hair.
i THINk some of them are on the Mai Fa webpage.. try looking for Mai Fa hair styx. or Shaune Bazner designs....

if you cant find that.... email me and i will try to send you some of my hair style books or info for shoulder length hair...

2. I also have thick hair, and I usually twist it into a claw clip... when I had LONGER hair, I either had a friend french braid it or I put it in a bun.

hair styles--i have long hair that is probably 4 or 5 times as much as the normal human being. one time, i even cut out a bunch from the center of my head which was amazing until i started to have stubby 2 to 3 inch bunches that stuck out when i tied my hair back. don't try that at home, kids...

1. part your hair down the center (you can do angled to a side too, but try it down the center to start). grab a small bunch and begin to twist so that the hair bunch that you are twisting follows your natual hair line around your face, and so that the hair you are twisting is twisted towards the center part. i guess if you're twisting the left side, it's clockwise. as you twist and it gets tighter, begin to add more hair, only grabbing bits from your hairline. continue until you reach the nape of your neck. do this to both sides and when both sides are at the nape of your neck, tie, topsy tail the end to secure it (and this also helps to keep the twisty design beyond where you stopped twisting, sort of marrying both sides into one big bunch). this should help keep your hair out of your face, and is not so hot for summer months. i can send a picture in the coming days if this is easier. just shoot me a message if you are interested.

-try the same part. then part each side behind your ear like a half pony tail but tie them on both sides. braid the remaining tail part of the half pony tails and tie them together. pull the rest of your hair (all that stuff below your ears into a higher pony tail and pull the braided part below the pony tail. to make this one fancier, add a few random braids of small strands next to your neck's nape... this creates a smaller pony tail with a few versions to it.

-french braid. not one down the center, but two on the sides. creates the illusion that your hair quantity is normal.

i think i have more. let me know if you need further descriptions.

Would your son like a puppet theatre? You can get kits to build them, or make one from scratch. Once it's assembled there's endless scenery, characters and little stories to create and play with. To say nothing of putting together soundtracks and effects.

He could even make his own stage versions of the films he loves to watch.

Have him bake something with you. Something simple like brownies, or chocolate chip cookies. Maybe get a gingerbread house kit and have him help you make a gingerbread house, but make sure he is building it the way he wants it to be built.

Something else that might help (my sister and I did this a lot when we were young). If there's someplace in your house he could build a tent out of a large blanket, and put pillows inside, maybe get some old socks and make puppets out of them. :)

Hope this helps!

What about your local library for renting videos?

How about projects for your little guy?

Most holiday appropriate would be making your own snow globes. This is so much fun!
-recycled jar
-baby oil or mineral oil
-tin foil, glitter or whatever you want your snow to be
-little figuring or ornament
+glue the ornament to the lid of the jar
+fill jar with enough of the baby oil and pour in your "snow"
+seal it up!

There are so many different directions for this project. This is what worked for me, but just look up "homemade snow globe" and you'll get all sorts of different ideas.

There's always the tornado in a bottle. They're very easy to make, and fun.

Or a volcano? Baking soda and vinegar get the job done. I'm sure it'd be fun for him to see even if you don't want to build the whole volcano.
