Dec. 14th, 2008 11:07 pmHi I am Holly, 17, Australian and I have just finished Year 12 (final year of high school). Next year I am taking a GAP year to England to work for 12 months before coming back to Aus to go to uni doing a Bachelor of Arts. I found this community a few days ago and have been getting in contact with lots of people to help grant some wishes!
1 – Advice on working/living in England for a lone 17year old (turning 18 in Feb). I have a job already at a boarding school but just advice on things like clothes/money/things an aussie wont know about. That would be LOVELY!
2 – Advice from anyone who has been on a TopDeck of Contiki tour. What are they really like? Do you get to see the locations or is it all rushed? Or is it all just a drunken mess?
3 – Travel books to ANYWHERE! I dream of travelling the world one day!
4 – Money, affording the GAP Year has been hell for my mum and dad, considering mum can only work part time as she has Lupus and dad is a Vietnam Vet with a TPI pension. I would love to be able to put their minds at ease a bit. Even with me working lots since school has ended, I still will need more money from them.
5 – Advice on how to use Skype and any camera/headphone equipment that is needed!
6 – Advice on tattoos.
7 – I would love to share a journal with someone, write one week, send it and share. Like pen pals but with a little book. Someone who is around my age (by about 8 years) would be lovely.
8 – More LJ paid time.
9 – Photographs. I am in the process of making this large photo collage on my wall and I would love some beautiful artistic esk photographs. Or even just normal photographs of travel adventures/happy people/beautiful things that make you happy. Whatever! (dark and depressing things work also)
10. A crossover fic between Stargate Atlantis and House, with House/Cuddy and John/Elizabeth. Even better if bones is thrown in with Booth/Brennan. And please a fic that takes longer than two minutes to read! (oh this would be so very very cool!!!) :D
My email is hollysamantha@bigpond.com.au Also - SNAIL MAIL IS LOVE!!
Thanks and everyone have a wonderful, safe, happy Christmas!

Date: 2008-12-14 07:07 pm (UTC)Advice on tattoos- make sure the design is something you've considered for a while, think if it's something that will stand well on it's on if you don't plan to have anymore, but also consider how it would fit into a design if you decided to have more in the future. Visit where you plan to have it done in advance and see if you feel comfortable there. Also if you want to go to a decent one expect to get given an appointment that could be weeks/months away.
Here's one of my favourite pics form when I visited Paris in 05, not very artistic sorry.

If it would mean a lot to you, make sure that it is something that if you wanted to hide it, that it can be some place that you could. And make sure that your artist has a good rep, and a good design to give you! :D

Date: 2008-12-15 01:42 am (UTC)WHOOT. I love tattoos (I have two mahself), so I hope I can help with this. You need a government-issued ID (driver's license or whatevski), no matter how old you are. Definitely make sure that it's something you know you'll like your whole life. Don't get a person's name (unless they're blood-relation or you know you'll be with them forever) or a band. If this is your first tattoo, which I would assume it is, lol, DON'T GET IT SOMEWHERE SENSITIVE. I'd get it on your upper arms or your calves, as they are the least sensitive spots on your body. Your underarm and back of your legs will hurt quite a bit if you're unfamiliar with tattoos. As for what it feels like, do you know how it feels when someone writes on the back of your hand with a pen? It honestly feels kinda like that, but harder and sharper. It's not incredibly painful, trust me, I'm a total wuss and I truly don't mind getting tattoos. Eat/drink something sugary before you go, otherwise you may pass out. Eat some M&M's or drink a soda. I didn't the first time and I was very close to passing out, lol. Other than that, it's really not as bad as people think it is. If you decide to get one, I hope you enjoy it! Tattoos are like Pringles: once you start, you just can't stop!

Date: 2008-12-23 12:05 pm (UTC)I was thinking of getting a short phrase, what kinds of writing are too hard to read?

Date: 2008-12-23 03:56 pm (UTC)Don't get incredibly complex, like, cursive or calligraphic writing. That would be near impossible to read. You can do fancy swirly letters if you want, but don't make it TOO swirly or it won't be legible. Hope that helps!
