Dec. 15th, 2008 03:23 pmI used to be a regular LJ user, and haven't touched it in a long time. (My friends moved to Blogger, and I followed the crowd... Yeah, I know.) But I heard about this community, and it looks like a really great concept! I definitely want to participate...
Brief bio, I'm a 24 year old middle school school teacher, and I live in the Portland area. I don't have any family in the near area, but I've made some friends in the year that I've been here. It's my second year teaching, which is much better than the first, but still a humongous challenge every day. Um, I don't really know what's relevant or interesting to include, so I guess I'll just get to the point. :)
1) Your favorite book. I love to read all kinds of things. And I love to connect with people by sharing something they love to read. If you love it, I probably will too.
2) Books for my classroom. As a new teacher, I don't have much of a classroom library yet. But I strongly believe in the importance of getting my kids reading! It does wonders for their English abilities, in addition to all the normal reasons for kids to be reading. I teach middle school ESL (English as a Second Language). I have kids at all language levels, so I would love books anywhere on the K-8 reading level spectrum. Both English and Spanish books would be awesome.
3) CDs of your favorite Christmas music. I'm one of those people who doesn't even mind the Christmas music playing in stores on November 1. I love the holidays and the cheer, and I really love the singing.
4) CDs of your favorite "other" music. If you love it, I probably will too.
5) Good pens. I'm a sucker for good writing utensils. I love a pen that writes really well, and I love bright colors, and yeah. It just makes me happy.
6) Your favorite story. I love hearing people's stories! And we all have a story (or lots of them) that we love to tell. I'd love to share your story with you!
7) A cello. Not for me, but my roommate. Her cello was destroyed in a very unfortunate incident, and she's not very hopeful that it will ever be replaced. She doesn't play it enough anymore to justify spending the money on a new one. But she loves it a lot, and if there was a homeless cello wandering the streets out there and looking for some TLC, she'd definitely give it some use, love, and care.
8) Dark chocolate m&m's. Definitely my signature candy. Love them. Lovelovelove.
And I can't really think of anything else right now, so I'll just leave it. Let numbers 9 and 10 represent whatever act of goodwill you choose. :)
I'll send you my address, if you email me at: kristinewuzhere@gmail.com
