Happy happy Holiday_Wishes!
Nov. 21st, 2011 03:21 pmHello All! This is my second year actively participating in this community, though it's my fourth of reading and granting! You can ask any of my friends and they can attest to how much I love this season.
My name is Alianne. I just graduated from University with an undergraduate degree in Theatre and Psychology. I am currently working in a year long internship at a DC theatre that does amazing work. I love my life. Truly. I hope Anyway, since I have moved, I no longer have a PO box. Thus, just leave a comment and I can PM (or email if you prefer) you my mailing address if you so wish!
The List - Thank you!!
1. I would love some new LJ-friends who read, comment, and post. Throughout my time on the interwebs I've met people I'm proud to count among my friends. I'm going to do my best for semi-regular posting, and I'd love some LJ friends who would read and comment. I'd do the same, certainly! Just check my userinfo to see if you think we'd get along.
2. Cards, postcards, and letters, oh my! If you need an idea for what to write, check out the next two items! (If you're in the Holiday theme, I celebrate Hanukkah and love Christmas trees.)
3. Quotes! I collect quotes. Funny, meaningful, poingient, meaningful-to-you-in-a-way-it-can't-be-to-anyone-else, all quotes.
4. If you're going to mail something, I'd love it if you included a list of few things that make you happy. I have a book called "The Happy Book", in which I have a huge list (over 9900, now, spanning four volumes!) of things that make my friends and I happy. Repeats welcomed, and there's no limit. Contributions have ranged from one item to over 300 (over multiple entries). I'd love to have some other additions - I'll add their numbers and paste them into the book :)
5. A bit of a pipe dream, but I would love a full size guitar. I have one linked at my Amazon wishlist (see #7), but I am mentioning it here because I would love to take one off your hands. I can't afford much though, so if you live outside the DC-Metro area I could try to cover shipping, or if you live in the DC Metro area I could pick it up? Maybe I could repay you in baked goods? :)
6. There is not enough Hufflepuff Pride in the world. Take that as you may ;-)
7. For the first time, a link to my Amazon Wish List. It's not very long, but used and paperback are wonderful too. These are books I have read from the library, but would sincerely love to own. http://amzn.com/w/1U6Q2A9L05TF5
8. If you're in Washington DC and see a vendor selling Street Sense, buy one. It's a publication put out by the homeless, and it's a very legitimate way both to raise awareness and for some people to begin to get back on their feet. There are organizations like this across North America - check out http://www.nasna.org/ for more details.
9. Music!! Music, Music, Music. Mix CDs, Recommendations, MP3 downloads -- I would love to expand and see what you like. Folk is my favorite but I listen to almost everything. Mix CDs, especially with themes or stories, are my favorite. If you'd prefer to email, my email is aliannesecunda@gmail.com :)
10. Surprise me!
Thank you SO much for everything and for taking the time to read. Again, just leave a comment if you want me to shoot my address your way, and please do link your own wishlist!
Thanks all! Have a great Holiday_Wishes and Holiday Season!
With warmth and laughter,
Alianne

Date: 2011-11-22 04:16 am (UTC)A quote that I love.. it's from the movie Independence Day.
Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

Date: 2011-11-22 07:02 pm (UTC)It's an insanely eclectic group of about 100 songs I've had in heavy rotation this year. It's everything from some seriously cheesy 80's pop, to Broadway musicals, to classic rock to current radio stuff...
Sound good? :)

"things must happen when it is time for them to happen. A quest may not simply be abandoned; unicorns may go unrescued for a long time, but not forever. A happy ending cannot come in the middle of the story."
(The Last Unicorn - Peter Beagle)
I'll try to put some music together for you too. :)

Date: 2011-11-30 01:58 pm (UTC)Things that make me happy
Cat noses, dog tails wagging, curious robins watching me put out the bird food, crunch leaves underfoot, squirrels chasing, playing and storing their food for winter, sunny cold days, being curled up on the sofa with my slanket and a cup of tea, my partner cheering my up by pretending to be a honey badger eating my toes (no, we're not 12 :-P), friends, a random act of kindness, music, singing loudly (and in my case badly) with friends to music we love

4) "Where hope grows, miracles blossom." - Elna Rae
I really do hope at least one of those isn't a duplicate that you already have. I do hope you enjoy. :)
