mod post: non-holiday wishes

Hey everybody,

Okay, I'm the first to admit I've been the worst mod ever (of the 6 of us that are here, anyway ;) ), but I've finally gotten a chance to look back at the community (which I haven't been able to follow since before Christmas), and I can see a lot of non-holiday wishes and people asking for or wanting to swap stuff.

And you know what? That's great! However, this community was created specifically for the 10 wishes meme.

So if you want to give away stuff, swap stuff, post birthday wishes, or any other requests for stuff, please take a look at this post, which is listed on the userinfo page of this community:

That's a list of all other wish-related communities on livejournal. Please give those communities some attention as well!

If there are any other wish-related communities out there that are not listed on that particular post, please comment there or here with their location (they don't have to be on LJ) and I will add them to the userinfo page of the community (I can't right now, but hopefully I'll be able to tomorrow).

Sorry for the disorganization of this post, but I'm trying to organize my home life as well as online life... heh :)

ah, I'm the horrid mod in this case, I let them all through! Though I wasn't sure whether it was allowed or not and I didn't want to cause trouble so I approved them. Thanks for clarifying though :D

You're welcome. I had to blink a few times looking back at the community, and realized that while it's nice to let all these requests through... that they really don't have anything to do with the community purpose and it was getting a bit spammy, which isn't conducive to having people keep the comm on their friends pages... which leads to less attention for the real purpose of the community.

I know this is a holiday wish list community and people post their wishes around the holiday season but surely it is okay to fulfill peoples wishes outside of the holiday period as well?

I have very little money or time to spare around christmas to get things done due to work and family commitments and as much as I try to sort things it always falls behind yet whenever i try to contact people here who I know have asked for certain things I get my posts rejected.

Whats the point of having it running at any other time of the year if its only allowed to be done over the holiday period?

Well, just because the community exists doesn't mean it has to be active (posting has slowed down a lot through January, as you can see.)

I have not rejected any post that hasn't been either spam or people just asking for stuff out of the blue and crossposting to other communities, so I don't know what to say about that. This community was created specifically for the wishlist meme (of 10 wishes, big or small) that began back in November, so to have it run after the holidays would make it off-topic.

If you would like to fulfill wishes throughout the rest of the year, by all means go to one of the other communities mentioned and do so. I plan on talking to the other moderators and setting out a timetable for when we'll start next years Holiday period, and a good date for 'shutting down' this year's (though I think that since it's now February, this is probably as good a time as any.)
