My Holiday Wishes:
01. Learn about AIHA (autoimmune hemolytic anemia), especially if you have dogs (Notice their healthy gum color!). And check out Morris Animal Foundation to see what kind of research grants they give to the veterinary community. Make a donation for AIHA research if you are so inclined. (The first 50k is being matched.)

02. Book recommendations to add to my library request list. I like most everything non-fiction and fiction (not a big fan of fantasy though.)

03. Easy to make wheat free recipes.

04. Hug your pets a few extra times today, and comment or email with a pic of your 'baby' if you have one. If you don't have a pet, consider visiting your shelter and walking a dog or snuggling a cat. (Or even donating your old towels.)

05. Ideas for a new lj/web page layout. I can do the coding, I just suck at coming up with designs (color schemes, banner styles, the actual layouts, ...)

06. paid lj/icon time.

07. This dog toy, or a similar one. I've seen hide-a-bee, hide-a-squirrel, hide-a-bird, and a holiday themed one. Or any dog toys/tennis balls.

08. a card/postcard.

09. An email from an engineer or musician about your schooling & work experience. I am especially interested in the different civil engineering fields.

10. Take 5-10 minutes for yourself and have a happy holiday season.

Let me know if you fill any of the [non-material] wishes above! Everyone should definitely do the first half of wish 10!

Why Things Break is a very fascinating book about why things break. :) It looks at materials at a very basic level, molecular even, and is very understandable for a non-scientist (although it could have used some diagrams for easier flow and also used a little less snarking about the PhD process). As a (possible?) engineering student, you should enjoy it. It's one of the few non-fiction books I've actually finished.

I donate to the shelter often.

9) [livejournal.com profile] ilmarinen is an engineer. [livejournal.com profile] notquitezeus is a diffrent kind of engineer. Both of them would probably answer any questions you'd have about whatever, just post in their journals.
I am on close terms with a few very famous and some not so famous but equally talented musicians, though not one myself. I can tell you that one of them was kicked out of high school, one went to college for a few years and yet another graduated. What they all have in common is dedication to the music and working as hard as possible. I did ask one of the more famous ones (his music is on the radio daily) once if he had advice for starting up musicians, "Buy a van. All the other musicians will want to join you if you have a van to drive them around in. Stay in your local town and get big there, then tour. It's much better to say you are from podunk town than LA. I don't even know new bands from around here anymore but I know lots of little bands in podunk towns."

For #2: Neil Gaiman, anything by him. He's very good.

For #4: I can't help but cuddle my little Blaze (my cute tabby). I think it kinda gets on his nerves how much I pick him up, lol. :)

02- Have you read anything by James Herriot (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0312192363/qid=1131133127/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/104-8684541-3195951?v=glance&s=books)? He was a vet from Britain, and I highly recommend reading one of his books. Fits the animal theme ;)

04- If I wasn't away at college, I'd be hugging my kitty (http://etaven.chinaberries.net/pix/portia7.jpg) lots... but instead I'll spend some extra time admiring my fishy here :)

Woops - bad coding on my part. What it was supposed to say was, " Here are some recommendations, and I also have your first name. There's a card in the mail with your name on it. ;)"

For recipes, there's the Peak of the Market (http://www.peakmarket.com) website.

You can do searches based on which veggie you’d like to use, what kind of meal/dish you’re looking for, or just call up the site’s complete alphabetized recipe listing. You can also e-mail the recipes to other people or submit your own to the site.

I hope you can find some recipes there that you can use! :)

You're very welcome! :D I was amazed at the number of veggie-containing desserts they have on there. :9

I hope you have a great Christmas! ^_^

Did the first part of #1, which is actually really good to know, considering I have an English springer spaniel myself. Thankfully, he's healthy now after having surgery to rumor a tail tumor.

For #2 if you haven't already, read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold and The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Er, if you can handle/are into classical, then The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is always wonderful. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is a unique read too.

#10 was done yesterday. lol
