For my list,

1. Make a donation to a charity or an organization that supports things, ideas, or causes that you like. Any amount of money, or service, or whatever. It's just a cool thing to do, so go give some time or money to something you like.

Although there's no reason whatsoever for you to be sympathetic to the same causes I am, if you want to make a donation to a charity or organization that I like, that would be a great gift to me. So, my personal favorites are the AIDS Marathon Program, the American Cancer Society, the Dr. Ulrike Schumacher Memorial Fellowship Fund at the Missouri State University Department of Defense and Strategic Studies, The Heritage Foundation, and the American Red Cross. (Some of these are, properly speaking, not charities, and all of them have, obviously, an ideological bent. If any one of them makes you uncomfortable, don't send them money in my name or anyone else's. Send someone else money.)

2. I'm a frenetic fanatic of the awesome internet cartoon Achewood, penned by Chris Onstad. In addition to providing hilarious commentary on the universe through a comic starring talking cats and other animals, Achewood provides a generous supply of merchandise, including books, shirts, signed prints, and random accessories. I would like the pint glass.

3. A pair of speakers, old ones are fine as long as they work; they don't even have to have cables, and it might be better if all they had were lug terminals (I already have cables already). Bigger is better but the actual wattage and technical performance characteristics are immaterial. I just picked up a record turntable/tape deck/8-track machine and I don't have a spare set of tweeters to try it out with.

4. I also have no records (at least none readily available). If you have some you don't want, send them to me so I can see if my record player works. I like classic jazz (think Miles Davis and Dave Brubeck), classic rock (think Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones), and classical (that Beethoven guy).

5. I collect coffee mugs. If you have one (or more) that you don't use or want, send them to me. I particularly like coffee mugs from interesting locales around the world, and as a government worker I have a particular affinity for those mugs with circular agency logos on them. I keep a large stock of coffee and supplies at my office, so you can be assured that if you sent me a mug it would go to good use.

6. By the same token, I like coffee. I like various kinds of coffee (but not decaf! for that is heresy) and am always interested in trying some new blends. If there's a kind of coffee you particularly like and would like to share, send me some. Either ground or whole bean is fine.

7. I don't have a real ice cream scoop. I'd like one. I don't care how fancy or old it is or is not.

8. I don't have a birdseed scoop either. I'd really like one of those ones where you scoop the seed, invert the scoop, and push a lever that dispenses the seed vertically down the scoop's handle.

9. My favorite sports teams are the Washington Redskins, the Green Bay Packers, and the Washington Nationals. I don't flag my sports fandom all over the place, but I'd love any paraphenaila from any one of these three teams - shirts, hats, keychains, mugs, whatever.

10. Some people have "wine collars." I'm a wine fan but I hate how after you pour the wine, if you do it sloppy like I tend to, little drops of it slide down the outside of the bottle and stain your tablecloth, if, again, you are a slob like I am and forget to put the wine bottle on top of a napkin or something. Save me from my slobbishness. My tablecloth will thank you even if my liver doesn't. Here is an example.

Thanks and happy holidays to all!
