Date: 2005-12-11 09:00 am (UTC)-First of all, separate your food and fluids. If you ate at 8:30, wait at least 30 minutes before you drink anything.
-Next, reduce the amoutn your eat, but eat more often. 6 small meals instead of big ones. Or snack through the day. Bland proteins are good and help keep you sugar even instead of up and down.
-Then, reduce the amount you drink, but drink more often. About an ounce every 13 minutes. If you're awake 12 hours, that's roughly 48 oz, which should keep you judrates. It should be something with a bit of sugar (but not a lot). That counters the acid in your tummy.
-If you are craving something, try it. Usually it will stay down.
-Chamomile tea- very anti-inflammatory int he stomach and intestine. With just a bit of sugar to make it sweet.
-Ginger - candied or chews works well. Can get them at most health food stores. Ginger ale too, but make sure it's flat. Anything carbonated will make things worse. The ginger help the stomach to move things along instead of sitting around in your tummy.
-If smells bother you, keep a lemon or a tube of lemon juice handy. The smell us ysyally settling and overpowers about everything else.
-Have a good protein before you go to bed.
-Avoid fatty/greasy foods. Spicy foods will stay down ok sometimes, but once heartburn becomes and iddues, avoid them.
- When you are particularly nauseated, avoid solids all together in favor of small frequent amounts of liquids like salty broths, cream soups, pudding, jello, hot cereals like cream of wheat/rice and thin oatmeal. Then move up to bland starches like potatoes without butter, dry toast, crackers, eggs, and baked chicken without the skin.
Hope that helps!
