[identity profile] changewillcome.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] holidaywishes
I know this seems early but I wanted to:

1) Get a tally of moderators to know who is going to be doing Holiday Wishes this year or leaving so we'll know if we're going to need to look for any new mods to help out.

2) Bring the idea to the "table" so to speak of opening Holiday Wishes up officially this year on the first of November. I know that seems early (since in the past things really start to pick up right after Thanksgiving) but last year we had a few members suggest that it would be nice to have more time to accomplish wish granting, especially in the case of people that ask for hand-made gifts like scarves, etc.

Other additional notes: This year's new layout for the community is up already and as vaguely discussed last year the sister community [livejournal.com profile] holiday_thanks is up (layout to be finished soon).

hmm, i suppose this isn't decided yet.. but at least when it comes to what i'll be wishing for, yarn for example, it's hard to just say i want this brand & this color - cause i really wouldn't want 30 skeins of the same kind :p i'd rather just wish for yarn & that anything goes. same for example magazines - i don't want more than one of each, you know. would that not be ok?

I agree with you there -- asking for "yarn" and "magazines" is fine, but I'm thinking about people who list their first wish as "music" and then go on to list five or ten individual CDs under that first wish. If they want to ask for 10 individual CDs, fine, but that's 10 different wishes. Do you know what I mean?

oh ok, then i understand. i just didn't think of that people would do like that :/ would it be ok to list preferences under a wish, such as for instance what type of magazines i'd prefer (and maybe say that i don't want certain types, as well) but that i can still take whatever?

As long as you aren't asking for a number of specific issues, I think that's okay.

i agree with you, not that i'm a mod or anything.. esp about people being able to decide for themselves what wishes to grant or not. i wouldn't grant a wish for people who are all about receiving, at least not as my first choice.

Love opening up Nov 1 -- would also be up for moderating if you need some help. I've done some of that before in game communities, so I'm familiar with the general drill.

Excellent -- I'll plan to start paying attention to this discussion then :>.

As for Letterboxing -- yea, a great way to scratch that "hunt for treasure" itch so many of us have while spending time in the Great Outdoors :>.

I really like the idea of opening up earlier. Maybe that's because I work in retail and the holidays started weeeeeks ago? lol

If I have a question for the moderators - who do I send it to?

You can reach one of us, at least, at eruantale @ livejournal.com

(That's me, not logged in because I'm at work.)

i would appreciate if you opened up early - the sooner the better :) as you wrote, some gifts take a while to finish & if you send internationally as i'm likely to be doing, the postal service isn't super-quick around x-mas, either.

Oh yeah! I second that. Open up after Halloween.

Good idea.

I may not be a mod, but I'm sure it's okay if I put in my two cents, yeah?

I much like the idea of starting on Nov. 1st. It seems like a wise thing to do, given that this community has so many members. Seems to me that it would give more people more time to scan through the lists and grant more wishes.

Hi, just joined this community a couple of months ago. Sounds really fun!

If no one minds me posting a question: I saw on the userinfo page that you list your wishes here and we're supposed to do it in our LJ too. What's the point of doing it in our LJ if no one on our f-list is involved in this community? I don't have a problem with doing it, if that's the rules, just felt it was sort of repetative. Thanks!

You can post it wherever you want, you don't HAVE to post it on your own LJ unless you want to. You could always post a link to the community so that your friends could see what it's about though.

Actually, linking might be better. I think that we'll consider a new rule about only posting once, that way all comments can go on one entry so things aren't duplicated...

First of all, I would like to say thank you to you guys for creating this community - it's been wonderful.

Also, if you would like some extra help with moderating, I would be happy to help. My moderating is mostly in icontest communities, but I would love to be part of such a good cause.
