Mod Post: Calling All Moderators
Oct. 15th, 2006 07:00 pmI know this seems early but I wanted to:
1) Get a tally of moderators to know who is going to be doing Holiday Wishes this year or leaving so we'll know if we're going to need to look for any new mods to help out.
2) Bring the idea to the "table" so to speak of opening Holiday Wishes up officially this year on the first of November. I know that seems early (since in the past things really start to pick up right after Thanksgiving) but last year we had a few members suggest that it would be nice to have more time to accomplish wish granting, especially in the case of people that ask for hand-made gifts like scarves, etc.
Other additional notes: This year's new layout for the community is up already and as vaguely discussed last year the sister community
holiday_thanks is up (layout to be finished soon).

Date: 2006-10-17 06:53 am (UTC)It's kind of a sticky problem - where do we draw the line of what counts as multiple wishes and what counts as simply listing examples? We'd have to find some sort of definite way of deciding how to separate the two. It's also a question of if it will be worth the trouble trying to get people to follow the little details when we've had people have trouble just following the "10 wishes only" criteria.
The categories thing can be annoying, but it also seems that people granting wishes are pretty good at picking and choosing what wishes they grant; it seems like the very "gimmie gimmie" posts have gotten passed over quite a bit in the last couple years of Holiday Wishes. I guess it kind of comes down to how much we want to weed things down and how much we want to leave up to people granting to decide for themselves who to grant for or not.

Date: 2006-10-17 07:03 am (UTC)I'm cool with adding you as a mod, so I'll add you within the next couple of days unless any other mods have any objection.
And on a completely unrelated note, I saw in your userinfo that you're into letterboxing - awesome! I just learned about that couple months ago. I haven't done it yet but as soon as the weather clears up I'm hopefully going after one or two of the ones local to me.

Date: 2006-10-16 11:57 pm (UTC)Good idea.
I much like the idea of starting on Nov. 1st. It seems like a wise thing to do, given that this community has so many members. Seems to me that it would give more people more time to scan through the lists and grant more wishes.

Date: 2006-10-18 04:07 pm (UTC)If no one minds me posting a question: I saw on the userinfo page that you list your wishes here and we're supposed to do it in our LJ too. What's the point of doing it in our LJ if no one on our f-list is involved in this community? I don't have a problem with doing it, if that's the rules, just felt it was sort of repetative. Thanks!

Date: 2006-10-18 09:08 pm (UTC)Actually, linking might be better. I think that we'll consider a new rule about only posting once, that way all comments can go on one entry so things aren't duplicated...

Date: 2006-10-27 09:50 pm (UTC)Also, if you would like some extra help with moderating, I would be happy to help. My moderating is mostly in icontest communities, but I would love to be part of such a good cause.
