Frybread
Date: 2007-01-04 11:22 pm (UTC)3 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of salt
3 heaping teaspoons baking powder
1 heaping tablespoon of shortening
1 pint of lukewarm water.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Cut in shortening, adding water to make dough (consistency of biscuit dough). Roll out dough about 1/2 inch thick and cut into 3 inch squares. cut a hole in the center. Fry in deep Veggie Oil or Canola Oil.
This bread is fantastic many different ways. My family puts anthing from just honey on it to fruit cocktail, jelly at breakfast time, or scrambled eggs with peppers, cheese, onions and ham chunks.... or taco stuff for on it. It's fantastic.
