F.A.Q. for Holiday Wishes 2007!

Hello Everyone!

It's almost that time again. Fall is here, Halloween will be here before we know it, and soon it will be November 1st and the community will open for the 2007 Winter holiday season.

But first we've got to do a bit of house cleaning, so expect a few moderator posts between now and then. We're taking into consideration the feedback posts from last year, and addressing some of the issues that people thought were important.

First on the list will be constructing a F.A.Q. for the community. So what we need from you all are some questions that you'd like addressed by the moderators before we begin.

So does anyone out there have any questions to submit? Comment below! Please put "FAQ" in the subject line of your comment, as this will make life easier for the mods (er, me anyway, since the comments will end up in my inbox) to separate the FAQ requests from any other comments posted.

I'm just confused about the whole Amazon wishlist deal; to be honest, I don't really think it got clarified too well last year. :-/ Will we not be permitted to link to our Amazon lists? If we won't be, will linking to one item on our list be frowned upon? I couldn't quite understand how that worked.

I'm going to post a poll about this either later today or tomorrow, about what the community wants to do. The mods are split on this issue, actually.

Amazon, etc. wishlists will be addressed in the Posting Guidelines, which will eventually be made up separately from the FAQ. Thanks for bringing it up :) It was a huge kerfuffle last year, and we're going to clarify it before we start this year.

I came to this list a little late last year. Could you tell me what the problem was with the Amazon wishlists? I might have to narrow some things down.

How do the tags work? What tags are there? Can I make new tags? Do I need to use every tag that applies? Do I need to use a tag at all?

Are there any limitations to what can be wished for (such as substances that can be illegal for certain age groups depending on where one lives etc.)?

Is it okay to mail previous wishes that have been delayed, even if that delay has been yearlong?

I can't think of anything else at the moment, just trying to help a bit :-)

This will be my second year here. I can't remember anything from last year right off hand but will sleep on it.

I've been looking forward to this community opening up again. I've got 4 people on my F-list who I'd met in this comm. One of them has even come to New Zealand for a visit and we've hung out Real Life.

I have just a small question, it may seem stupid to put up but I wanted to be sure.

Last year I was part of this and loved it. Well my brothers wondered why I got packages while they didn't. So I had to tell them. Now they want to be part of it.

I just wanted to be sure that 5 lists (my 4 brothers and me) would be ok with the same address. They'd be going to different people. But I just wanted to be sure that it wouldn't be seen as misusing this community to have several people from the same house putting up lists- some communities I met kinda frown on that.

Anyways thank you for the time to answer my question and I can't wait to see what other people want and what I can give to them. ^_^

It's perfectly fine if you have the same address! See the bottom of this mod post (http://community.livejournal.com/holiday_wishes/336406.html); when we get reports of double posts, we will try our best to make sure it's not just a case of multiple people with the same address.

This has nothing to do with how holiday_wishes is run (ran?) but I like to put forward holidaycards as an affiliate. It probably won't be very big, but it definitely holiday-themed. =)

Yup! You can include a note at the bottom saying that the post was approved by a moderator, so people know that they should contact us before trying to pimp their own communities.

I have a question about the lists.

Will members be posting the lists here in the community, or only in their personal LJ's? The rules confused me o.o.

Either or. Most people post their lists directly to the community, but if you want you can post a link to the community and your list on your journal. All wishlists linked to the community still have to obey community rules though.

Apparently I misnumbered (yet another reason I shouldn't do the list fine-tuning at 4am when I have insomnia) and my list, which has two #4s and eleven items, went through moderation. Should I just remove an item, or does the whole thing need removed/reposted (and did I accidentally just get myself taken out of this whole thing? :S)

No problem. I already struck one off provisionally, so I'll just go remove it permanently ^^ The sad thing is, I swear I remember double-checking the numbers, too, because I shuffled things around when I put in my subheadings. -_- At least I caught it now?
